Red Flag Warning and Potential Power Shutoffs in Northern California Amid Fire Risk
US · Published Jun 9, 2026
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) has issued a warning about potential power shutoffs in parts of Northern California due to an offshore wind event expected to develop on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, and continue into Thursday morning.
According to PG&E, north-northeast winds are forecasted to reach 15-25 mph, with gusts of 30-45 mph in the Sacramento Valley, Delta, and nearby higher terrain.

Why It's Important?

The combination of strong winds and low humidity significantly increases the risk of wildfires, which could grow rapidly in size and intensity. Residents in the Sacramento Valley, Delta, and North Bay regions are particularly vulnerable. Extended power outages could pose additional challenges, especially for older adults, individuals with medical conditions, and those without air conditioning. The warm overnight temperatures may further strain vulnerable populations, making it critical to prepare for potential disruptions.
